How often should I have my chimney cleaned?

The National Fire Protection Association recommends an inspection at least once a year. If you burn wood regularly, plan on a cleaning every year too.

How do I know my chimney needs attention?

Watch for a smoky smell, smoke drifting into the room, black flakes in the firebox, a damper that sticks, or water stains near the chimney. Any one of those is worth a call.

Do I need chimney service if I only use a gas fireplace?

Yes. Gas burns cleaner than wood, but the vent still needs a yearly look. Birds nest in gas vents, liners can corrode, and a blocked vent can push carbon monoxide back into the house. A quick annual inspection keeps it safe.

What's the difference between a Level 1, 2 and 3 inspection?

A Level 1 is the yearly check of everything we can see and reach, for a chimney you use the same way every year. A Level 2 adds a camera run through the whole flue and is the right call when you're buying or selling a home, switching fuel types, or after a chimney fire or storm. A Level 3 is rare: it means opening up part of the wall or chimney to reach a hidden problem we already suspect.
